Spend your evenings there and you'll leave after having had long conversations with very interesting people. My personal favorite (and that of Matt Barrett) is Lesvos Molyvos is one of the most beautiful and picturesque villlages in all of the Mediterranean and it has one of the greatest bars I've ever been in.and I'm not usually a bar person. It doesn't have an airport but it's only a half hour or so by ferry from Mykonos so you could fly into and out of there and easily connect to Tinos. Another one of those lesser-visited (other than Greeks, who make pilgrimages there to pay their respects to one of the holiest icons in the country) that has a lot to offer in terms of a variety of traditional villages and impressive geological formations. It even has a shipwreck beach to rival Zakynthos’ famous Navagio. But as one of the most remote Greek islands, it attracts independent travellers, hippies, and free spirits. Also a very good beach at Karfas.Īnother of his suggestions - Tinos - would be well worth 5 nights or so. With its stark rocky scenery and typical whitewashed architecture, mysterious Amorgos has everything you expect from a Cycladic island. One of the most interesting places I've traveled with the unique and fascinating mastic villages. I would agree with crazyh that Chios would be a great choice.

If you have any interest in exploring your chosen island be sure to rent a car. In Greece, you can blow your budget on an uber-luxe private villa in the islands or stretch your Euros with a stay in a small family-run hotel or buzzy urban property.Either way, it’s a fantastic place to travel around. If you're only going to be there for 7-8 days and want to spend even 2 nights in Athens, then I'd suggest limiting yourself to one island and make sure it has an airport to minimize your travel time between it and Athens.
